Just the facts ma'am

Alright folks.. we've had a few common questions lately..so we thought we'd post them here in case others of you were wondering the same thing...

Here ya go..

1. Can I just not sign up and show up in arrowhead and get in? Or can I find a cheap hotel/A friends cabin/etc in arrowhead and just come for the activities and not stay at the campground?

Nope, no, not so much. Here's why.

-We aren't staying at someone's house, meeting at the church where there is plenty of room, etc. We are staying on an actual campground that is rented out to groups like ours or summer camps, etc. The staff takes care of our food and activities. So the money you pay to come is going directly the staff/facility/activites. We have to tell the staff ahead of time exactly how many people are coming so they can plan our meals and make sure they have enough staff for the weekend.

-Bottom line? You have to sign up and register beforehand.

2. Can I just show up and pay for the few things I participate in rather than register for the whole weekend? Or can I just show up Saturday night for the dancing and hanging?

-Nope. We can't do a'la carte. Sorry.

We have to pay the retreat per person whether or not you zipline, play on the ropes course or eat any of the food. It's the same for all. And we have a group rate so it's all in one.

3. Can I request who is in my cabin?

-Sure! We would love that :) We just need to keep same genders in each cabin. But if you want to shoot us an email letting us know who you want to bunk with, we will do our best to make it happen. Email us at Plusoneweekend@gmail.com

4. Do I need to bring bedding?

-YES YOU NEED TO BRING BEDDING!!! If not you will be charged 20 bucks from the staff.

5. Are we going to be on the campsite the whole time?

-Depends. The ziplining, archery, ropes, sports, food, etc will all be on the retreat property, but we will also have suggestions for places to go in town if you want to go exploring. Saturday will be pretty casual so you can head into town if you want. And of course church on Sunday will be in town.

6. What airport should we use?

Ontario is closest and easiest, especially on a Friday night.

LAX is next, but will take a bit of time to get out to Arrowhead on a Friday.

If you have any other questions, send us an email; we'd be happy to answer!

Ghosts, goblins and ghouls.. Oh my...

Let it be known.

Being scared is rad.

And there is nothing quite as rad as sitting around a campfire, pitch black at night, flashlight in hand telling ghost stories.

The babysitter and the phone?

The hitchhiker?

Bloody Mary?

*Classics.

All we're sayin' is we're going to have a campfire. There might be flashlights. And if you can tell a good ghost story, you might have someone grabbing your arm.

And we aren't talking about the hook handed man.

Boo.

*Look 'em up kids if you don't know what we're talking about.

Come and get it...

Saturday I had an interesting conversation with a good guy friend. We were chatting about PlusOne weekend and inevitably the conversation turned to talking about the meal situation. Obviously.

After hearing about the food details, my friend informed me that CLEARLY I have done a poor job advertising this part of the weekend. Duly noted.

His understanding was that we are going to be eating various Costco-esque things (hot dogs, lemon cake, big tub of red vines, family sized stoffers lasagnas, blah blah). Anyone who knows me, can vouch I would never turn down a costco hot dog or a slice of lemon cake.. but that's not what you are getting at PlusOne.

Nope. Dot. Com.

Here's the real situation:

1. First off, all meals are prepared for us by the staff of the retreat location. And we get to eat together in the main lodge summer camp style.

2. The following meals are covered for the weekend: Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sunday breakfast and lunch (this will be at the chapel after church).

3. The following is a sample menu of what the retreat typically serves so we will be getting this menu or something on par with this:

Breakfast options:
  • Scrambled eggs
  • Sausage or bacon
  • Breakfast potatoes
  • Oatmeal with raisins & brown sugar
  • Biscuits with gravy
  • Danish and Muffins
  • Assorted cereals
  • Yogurt
  • Fresh sliced fruit
  • Pancakes and Waffles
  • Strawberries, blueberry & maple syrup
Lunch:
  • Chicken (or beef) enchiladas
  • Cheese enchiladas
  • Mexican rice
  • Refried beans
  • Tri-colored tortilla chips with Guacamole, fresh salsa, sour cream
  • Complete Salad bar
Dinner:
  • New York steak
  • Lemon baked salmon fillet
  • Vegetable
  • Potatoes with Beef Gravy
  • Complete Salad bar
  • Garlic Bread or Rolls
  • cheesecake or chocolate cake
Do we have to do any of the cooking? No
Do we have to do the dishes? No

I do love me some Costco, but yeah.. having someone else do the cooking while we get to play and hang out together? Not such a bad thing..

Couples Skate

Apparently we are on a blogging roller skating kick.. not sure why other than the fact it's totally awesome.

A few nights ago as I was driving down the 405 freeway (read that sitting on the 405 freeway), Africa, by Toto, came on the radio (YES!). Instantly, I was back at my local roller skating rink, with my pig tails and pink tube socks watching and hoping the cute boy in the OP shirt would ask me to couple skate during that song. Granted, I was a good 10 years younger than said cute boy and inevitably he chose the hot girl in the Jordache jeans who won the limbo contest... but a girls gotta dream.. right!?

What relevance does couple skating have to do with PlusOne... here ya go...

As you know, ALL activities, food and lodging are included in the price (which increases to $230.00 Oct 16th FYI). BUT, since one of the purposes of the weekend is to meet new people, we thought IF you did meet someone and IF you wanted to spend a few hours away from the group getting to know each other better, we would give you a few options.

We are still working out the details for Saturday night (dance party, movie night, blah blah), but if you wanted to "couples skate" with someone for dinner and join up with the group after, we will give you a list of options in Arrowhead when you check in at camp PlusOne.

Much like at the roller rink when the DJ played Open Arms and announced it's Couples Skate time... some people might want to ask someone to skate with them for the next 3 minutes and others will want to hang with the group and get cherry slushies from the snack bar.

Either option is great just remember that if you opt to couples skate, it's skating regulation that hands must be in each others back pockets at all times. Rules are rules.

Just keepin' it real people.

**Can we all agree that Africa is the best skating song ever.. right?!?

We're not saying.. we're just saying..

So remember when you were a kid and you went away to summer camp and inevitably there was the closing night talent show?

There were the usual suspects: the piano player, the dancer, the singer...etc, etc.

But there was always One. One who took the talent show to the next level. Perhaps it was your camp crush. Or maybe even the camper you hung out with all week, but you thought you just liked them as a "friend."

Either way. All that doesn't matter because you are crushing hard now.

Not saying PlusOne will or won't have a classic talent show.. but if we were, and you and your PlusOne were to do this... pretty sure you guys would win.. and we aren't just talking about the talent show...
